Mike Cerniglia was named the Executive Director of the National W Club in January 2014. As a member of the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department since 2005, Cerniglia has held multiple positions in his tenure including Director of Men’s Hockey Operations & Assistant to Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez.
As Executive Director, Cerniglia is responsible for the day to day management and operations of the organization and at the same time facilitate interaction, communication and build relationships with National W Club members. Additionally Cerniglia is a key team member that helps facilitate, coordinate and organize Social Functions, Reunions, Specials Events, Annual Member Golf Outing, Badger Blast and Crazylegs Classic.
Cerniglia was a member of the UW men's hockey team from 1996-2001 and a member of the National W-Club as a four-time letter winner. Cerniglia was a member of various student athlete advisory boards while he was playing hockey for UW and was honored with the National W Club community involvement award in 2001.
Cerniglia is a 2001 and 2013 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holding a Bachelor's degree in Communication Arts and Master’s degree in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis.
Mike and his wife Aleah (UW Volleyball Letterwinner 96’) reside in Madison, WI. and have two children: Michael Jr. and Jada.
Michelle Ballweg was promoted to Membership & Events Director in 2014. As a member of the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department since 1992, she has had a wealth of institutional knowledge gained most notably by providing administrative support for Men’s Varsity Sports & the Special Events office until 2001 when she moved into a similar role with the National W Club.
As Membership & Events Director Michelle provides professional services to the Executive Director and is primarily responsible for interaction, communication and facilitating membership services with all National W Club members. Michelle is a key team member that helps facilitate the membership process, coordinate and organize Social Functions, Reunions, Specials Events, Annual Member Golf Outing, Badger Blast and Crazylegs Classic.
Michelle and her husband Tim reside in Black Earth, WI and have two boys: Kyle and Tyler.
Doreen Dower was promoted to Senior Develop Specialist in 2015. She has been a staff member of the W Club since 2007, where she served the organization as Director of Sales & Marketing most notably responsible for managing the University of Wisconsin Athletics Game Programs & Crazylegs Classic. In 2014, Doreen became the Director of Operations overseeing the financial, accounting and human resource areas within the W Club.
As the Senior Develop Specialist, Doreen is responsible for member and community engagement where she facilitates, coordinates and assists in the organizing of the W Club social functions, reunions, special events, member golf outings and the Crazylegs Classic.
Doreen and her husband Jeff reside in Middleton, WI and have four daughters: Nicole, Marissa, Payton and Christina.
Stoughton, Wis., native Duane Kleven has been a fixture in the University of Wisconsin Athletics Department since becoming its head wrestling coach in 1970. The former coach and administrator currently works in Alumni Relations & Special Events for the National W Club, a position that he has held since 2003.
A member of several prestigious halls of fame, Kleven was honored with induction by the UW Athletics Department in 2006. The Badger wrestling coach for 12 years, Kleven earned a 132-48-5 dual meet record. His teams placed in the top-three of the Big Ten Championships nine times. He coached nine NCAA champions and 25 All-Americans. In 1977 he was named the NCAA Coach of the Year, and was the U.S. Wrestling Federation coach of the year in 1976.
After coaching, Kleven went on to serve as an associate athletic director for UW men’s varsity sports from 1984 to 1992. From 1993 until 2003, he served as the Director of Special Events for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics retiring in 2003 to join the National W Club.
Kleven wrestled at UW-Madison and received his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1961. He earned a master's degree in 1963, and joined the U.S. Army spending a year serving in the Republic of South Korea. After being discharged he continued to serve in the Army Reserves for the next 29 years attaining the rank of Colonel.
Upon his return to the States, he became the wrestling coach at Racine Park, where his teams went 39-5-2 and won WIAA state titles in 1967 and 1969. He coached at Oshkosh State (now UW-Oshkosh) for one year before being hired by Elroy Hirsch to coach the Badgers.
In addition to his UW Hall of Fame honors, Kleven is a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame, and in 2014, was inducted into the Madison Sports Hall of Fame.
